But truck dealerships ripping a new rig apart and transforming what was once ordinary into an extraordinary work of rolling artisanship and craftsmanship? Fuhgetaboutit. That is unless you’re thinking pure Mayhem…

Year’s end is always a time of reflection. We look back over the past 11 months and take measure of where we are now in relation to where we were when the year began. We hope progress has been made in the positive and the road we took, with all the different twists, turns, and intersections life has thrown our way, was the proper one. From there we plot out where we’d like to head as the New Year begins. So it is around our offices …

One of the coolest custom rigs to hit the show truck scene this year rolled into the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas last week — and rolled out with accolades and awards. Ivy’s Poison, a 1986 Peterbilt 359owned by Kilgore, Texas-based Thomas Ivy, wowed everyone who saw it on display at GATS. This custom rig, its build process was closely guarded by 4 State Trucks’ Chrome Shop Mafia crew, won the prestigious Pride & Polish Best Limited Mileage Bobtail Paint award and other trophies at the GATS Overdrive’s Pride & Polish truck beauty show…

It wasn’t a surprise for anyone attending the 2009 Great American Trucking Show in Dallas to see a heavy contingency of custom rigs entered in Overdrive’s Pride & Polish truck beauty show. After all, trucking is big in Texas. The surprise was just how good the boys in the Lone Star state are when it comes to customizing their rides…a number of trucks customized by San Antonio-based ACW Specialties and the Texas Chrome Shop hauled away more than half of the Pride & Polish trophies….

Overdrive’s Pride & Polish truck beuaty show at the 75 Chrome Shop in Wildwood, Florida, sees some very surprising winners from Texas and Connecticut mixed in with some of the usual hardware-hoarding culprits of the custom rigs type. The most notable were the dump combos, which, in a sense, cleaned house, leaving many of the box trailers and flatbed boys running home empty-handed. And those guys from Georgia-based Taylor Transport, now they know how to bring home the chrome….
