I'm tired of my stock headlights and want to step up to lights that will really open up the dark roads. Which are better HID or those new  LED models? Are there any tricks to their installation? — Larry Denton, Fond du Lac, WI

Well Larry, we have not familiarized ourselves with the LED headlite option, these lights are still somewhat pricy and I haven't had a customer request a set or ask us to install a set of LED lites yet-check back in 2-3 months and hopefully we can 'tell ya more about em'.

Regarding the HID's- these kits have really come down on price from what they sold for initially, just a couple of years ago! I suspect they probably offer 'more' light than the LED version, simply because they utilize a ballast to store and 'step up' the amperage going to the Xenon bulbs. HID's are typically the type of headlites you notice on some late model vehicles that have a distinct blue, yellow or amber 'tint' to them at night. Another advantage is the life of the HID bulb is much longer than the life cycle of a traditional halogen bulb-some stat's say that HID's last 8-10 times longer than 'stock' bulbs.

Another option you may consider, is to replace your standard 55W halogen bulbs with 90W bulbs and supply power to them thru a relay. This is a fairly low cost way to increase the 'see-ability' of your headlites.
